NEW ACADEMIC ART
Artists from the leading art colleges in China
CALL FOR ENTRY

(The Gallery in Cork Street),展出时间为2011年3月4号至3 月11号。

Foreword: This is the first exhibition in the UK to present a comprehensive overview of a new development of the contemporary art in the China Central Academy of Fine Art and China Academy of Art and over the last 5 years will be view at The Gallery in Cork Street from March 4 through March 11. The exhibition brings to UK art from one of the world’s most dynamic and culturally sophisticated countries at a time of unprecedented interest in the country. It is a very good opportunity to further the UK audiences’ understanding of Chinese contemporary art..

China had begun to open up to the West in the 1980s and Chinese art has undergone enormous changes after the Cultural Revolution to today, and 2000 marked the moment when China recognized the importance, politically, of contemporary art, and the power that contemporary culture could exercise on the international stage, signaling a radical shift in both the status of the artist. Now, the Chinese modern and contemporary art  shows their extraordinary importance in Chinese art history, and the possibilities open to them..

In the early 1980s, the artists often inspired by political events, now predominantly  contemporary artists  are choosing to live and work in their native country, unlike many of the generation before them who had been forced to emigrate in order to pursue their artistic careers, they are moving towards a self-confidence and mature that stems from an understanding of the contemporary world, these artists seem less interested in politics and more concerned about their personal struggles and issues of identity. They adopted a style of social realism and Western techniques that combined both the evocative power and persuasive force of Expressionism with a realist depiction that could represent current social realities and issues, and their works also closely related to traditional Chinese culture. Their works ranges from comic book fantasy worlds to images of global fashion, rather than playing on the political themes

For many in the West, Chinese contemporary art is still synonymous with the political-realist painters of the 1980s and 1990s, who recycled the styles of communist social realism with pop cynicism. In China itself, however, the embracing of modern technologies and a widespread openness to the history of Western art has combined with distinctly Chinese traditions and concerns to forge entirely new forms of expression in the new century.
This book presents for the first time works from all phases of the artists' career, including sculpture, installation, drawing and prints. It engages a variety of critical voices to the art historical contact of their work, as well as the themes and concerns that continue to underpin it.
With Chinese art increasingly dominant in auction houses and exhibition spaces across the globe, this is a vital guide for all those interested in this vibrant aspect of international visual culture.

(The Gallery in Cork Street),以及它名下的位于17号和28号的画廊27号(Gallery 27) ,还有24号的亚丹画廊(the Adam Gallery),22号的博斯画廊(Beaux Arts London),23号的现代大师画廊(‘Modern Masters Gallery’,主要经营毕加索‘Picasso’、达利‘Dali’和库耐利‘Kounellis’等一级别的大师的作品)等。
(Clive Wilkins).
Cork Street is a street in Mayfair in the West End of London, England. It is very well-known in the British art world for the commercial art galleries that dominate the street. It is located to the north of Burlington House, which houses the Royal Academy, a leading British art institution. Immediately to the east and running parallel to Cork Street are New Bond Street and Old Bond Street. The nearest tube station is Green Park.
Cork Street is part of the Burlington Estate [1], developed from the 18th century. The first Earl of Burlington was Richard Boyle, 2nd Earl of Cork (1612–1698), hence the name, after the city of Cork in south western
Ireland. The street in particular and the area in general was associated with tailors. For example, Beau Brummell (1778–1840), who introduced the flamboyant form of gentleman's fashion in Regency London that became known as dandyism, patronised tailors in Cork Street and its surrounding area. Savile Row, not far from Cork Street to the east, is now the street most associated with high-quality gentleman's tailors today.
In the 20th century, the street became associated with the art world, partly due to its proximity with the Royal Academy on Piccadilly to the south. Victoria Miro Gallery was founded in Cork Street, although it has now moved. Messum's at No. 8 is another notable gallery. Other galleries include The Gallery in Cork Street together with the associated Gallery 27 at Nos 28 and 27 [2], the Adam Gallery at No. 24 [3], Beaux Arts London at No. 22 [4] and Modern Masters Gallery at No. 23 [5].
Many British-based artists have exhibited in Cork Street over the years. One of the most notable is Francis Bacon, a leading late-20th century painter. Paintings by Edward Piper and John Piper (the two leading artists in the Piper family) have been exhibited at Messum's [6]. Other artists whose works have been shown in Cork Street galleries include William Bowyer, Francis Cotes, Derek Gardner, Hugo Grenville, Heinz Henghes, Eric Meadus, Marilene Oliver, Roland Penrose, Patrick Procktor, Anne Sudworth, Will Teather, Julian Trevelyan, and Clive Wilkins.
