ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The world in general has become more graphic. To take an extreme example think of the world inhabited by the average teenager; from online learning through computeranimated films and games to text message and email. Great chunks of time are spent wholly immersed in an audiovisual parallel universe. It should not come as a surprise that the past few years have been extremely exciting and prolific in terms of publishing in the area of graphics. We have witnessed a significant increase not just in the number of titles published but also in terms of daring and originality. Moreover, it is almost as if the web had liberated creative arts expressing and spreading. These factors, combined with recent developments in production methods and the influence of new media, have enabled drawings to retain their position at the forefront of modern communication and continue to be an important source of inspiration to creative people everywhere.
Bringing together more than 30 artists and designers all over the world, the exhibition focuses on new graphic in contemporary practice and explores the medium of pen, mouse, camera, video, music and even scissors in these creative peoples' daily outputs. These recent works by young artists, both emerging and established, have been sourced from the fields of art, design and fashion. Whether representational or abstract, small or large in scale, using only one line or rich in colors and pattern, their works have a highly descriptive and meticulously detailed quality. Extending beyond the various art forms associated with this platform, the exhibition hopes to illustrate the complexity, variety, and relevance of the practice of new visual culture today.
Meanwhile, "eyes on" invites other artists and designers from various creative facets, including video, photography, music, fashion design, motion graphics and sculpture etc. This is not only encouraging the deeper understanding about "drawing" among the audience, but also extending their imaginations to a fairly interesting and wider creative region.
In addition, the exhibition serves as a launch party for the second issue of PLUGZINE. A detailed introduction about all exhibition contributors is going to be presented in the magazine.
关于展览
我们世界已经变得越来越图形化了。举一个极端一点的例子，试想当今居住在世界上的大多数年轻人，他们从通过internet在线学习，观看电脑动画，参与游戏娱乐，再到发送短消息和电子邮件，大部分的时间都沉浸在一个以图形影像与声音并行的宇宙之中。我们当然也不难看到在过去的短短几年里，绘画领域的出版物层出不穷，让人们兴奋不已。我们不仅目睹创作数量的飞速增长，同时也领略那些日趋大胆和新奇的想法。这看起来像是互联网解放了艺术创作的表现与传播。这些因素与生产方式的革新、新媒体的影响结合起来，一起使得绘画艺术保持着自己的敏锐的洞察力，始终出现在当代视觉文化交流的最前沿，并源源不断地为世界各地的创作先锋们提供重要的灵感源泉。
本次展览将30多位来自世界各地的年轻艺术家与设计师的作品齐聚一堂，着眼于当代新绘画及插图风潮，探索种类繁多的文化意识与表现方法。这些由新兴或已取得一定成就的年轻创作者的作品均来源于艺术，设计与时尚领域。不论抽象或具象，不论比例大或小，不论线条或色块，都拥有高度的表述力与细节品质。延伸这个集多类创作形式于同一平台的深层意义，其实是希望本次展览能够诠释图形绘画的复杂性、多样性、从而展现当今新视觉文化的优秀探索与实践。
与此同时，展览还特别安排了其他创作领域的4组专题展示，分别是：
- Absolut Lomo 活动发布展，来自世界6个国家6位不同领域的艺术家（包括美国街头艺术家Dalek、英国摄影师Sacha Liliac和中国艺术家黄岩等），将利用LOMO影像诠释自己对ABSOLUT原创精神的独到理解。同时，借由展会开幕之际，ABSOLUT LOMO活动也将在全国正式启动，让本土创意先锋透过ABSOLUT表达自我主张，亦让世界透过ABSOLUT看到中国的创意新生力量。
- eyes on 特约艺术家作品展，部分影像声音艺术家将在开幕酒会上进行现场演出。
- 来自伦敦的动画短片交流展，英国年轻多媒体设计个人/团体的新近作品展示。
- 伦敦艺术大学学生作品展（视屏），英国艺术设计教育界的最新成果，包括多位优秀华裔学生作品。
这些专题展示的内容涉及影像、音乐、时装、动画和雕塑等，丰富了对平面绘画艺术的多层理解，也使观者的想象力得到更为广阔和有趣的延展。
另外，本次展览也是PLUGZINE第二期新书的发布活动，关于参展的绘画插图艺术家/设计师更全面详细的作品与信息将呈现在这期杂志中。
